Jaguar hints at production model of the CX 17 concept car in 2016

Jaguar CX17 is the first crossover from the British automaker. The car was unveiled at the Frankfurt International Motor Show this year. The five door crossover was displayed at the Dubai International Motorshow in a new liquid aluminium metal finish colour.

Considered to be an all new segment in the automotive industry, if we compare the CX 17 with BMW’s crossovers, it is smaller than the X5 but bigger than the X3. Similarly in comparison to the cars from Audi’s portfolio, the Q7 is larger and the Q5 is smaller than this Jag.

Design wise on the exterior, the front fascia shows a spacious grille and big air intakes. The headlamps are similar to those seen on the Jaguar XJ. The crease lines on the hood make the car aerodynamically better. This concept version is fitted with 23-inch alloy wheels and is the biggest in this segment, also it has its name written on the custom-made Pirelli tyres. Coming to the rear of the car, the tail lamps are the same ones as seen on the Jaguar F-type Roadster. The dual exhaust tips are seen on the rear bumper with a honeycomb mesh around. Attention to these smaller details is what enhances the dynamic look of this car.

The interior has been crafted skillfully and is very roomy with adequate leg space and headroom keeping the peculiar crossover quality of being spacious intact. The car boasts of all bucket seats which might not be available later as this is a concept car. Also it has a large panoramic sunroof which covers the top of the entire car. The car is fitted with a 12-speaker audio system from Meridian and also features a screen with navigation and wi-fi system. Jaguar plans to make most of these systems available to the prospective buyers when the car reaches the dealerships in 2016.

Based on advanced aluminium architecture that will underpin a new range of future Jaguars, this car might be available in both petrol and diesel options with four as well as six cylinder engine variants.

Concept cars though futuristic by definition are more extreme and differ from what we see in the actual production car. However,  Jaguar plans to retain most of the qualities and essence of the CX 17 so as to not disappoint buyers with the production version. We will have to wait till the dawn of 2016 to see how the actual car would look when available for the masses.
