Jaguar was never known for SUVs, they never built one, but they came up with the idea to add an SUV in their line-up and the CX-17 concept was born. The CX-17 will make it to production and is slated for a 2016 launch. An automobile website has spied a camouflaged test mule wearing a Land Rover body, but its demeanour is a little different to LR vehicles. So, could this be Jaguar’s CX-17? Well, maybe.
The report claims at first appearance the test mule was considered a performance version of the upcoming Freelander successor, but, the possibility of it being a Jaguar CX-17 cannot be ruled out. The vehicle was spotted using a worked out Range Rover Evoque body with a big rectangular Jaguar-esque grille.
The Jaguar CX-17 will use the iq[AI] platform that will form the base for the all-new baby Jaguar saloon, the XE. The vehicle might also share the new Ingenium range of engines, it might also get an option of V6 engines but there isn’t any official word yet from the company.
The CX-17 concept, also shown at the Auto Expo, managed to grab everyone's attention. It is not enthralling to look at and doesn’t come of as a radical departure from the conventional but it did look pretty. We are not sure how the actual vehicle may look like but it might be one of the prettiest SUVs that one can see. It is too early to comment on the pricing but we expect Jaguar to slot the vehicle between the XE and the XF saloon.
