Jaguar has announced that it will not put the C-X75 hybrid concept car into production. Out of the five concept cars built, three will be auctioned, one will be retained as a demo vehicle and as expected the last one will be retained by Jaguar for an upcoming museum.
“We feel we could make the car work, but looking at the global austerity measures in place now, it seems the wrong time to launch an 800,000 GBP (Rs 7 crore) to one million-GBP (Rs 8.7 crore) supercar," said Adrian Hallmark, Jaguar global brand director. It is also likely that the company does not want a repeat of 1992 when it launched the incredible XJ220 and received a lukewarm response due to a financial crisis.
Coming back to the C-X75, it is powered by a four-cylinder 1.6-litre turbocharged and supercharged engine. It has been coupled with twin electric motors which send power to all four wheels. The car has a carbon fibre chassis designed by the Williams F1 team and has a claimed 0-100 time of just 2.8 seconds. While the C-X75 is not going to see the light of day, many technologies that have been developed for the car will get a lease of life in future Jaguar and Land Rover models.
