Jaguar has begun production of the XE sedan at Land Rover’s Solihull plant making it the first non SUV type vehicle to roll out of the plant in almost 24 years. Dubbed a factory within a factory, the XEs production has been set in an area of 1776045sqft after an investment of 500 million GBP.
The company in a statement has said that it has awarded contracts worth four billion pounds to around 55 UK based suppliers for the parts involved in the production of the Jaguar XE.
The Jaguar XE is the British automaker’s fighter in the executive luxury segment which has players like the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4. Though this is not the entry-level segment, it will garner volumes for the automaker. The vehicle is India-bound and will most likely be launched at the 2016 Auto Expo. It is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 35 lakh to Rs 50 lakh and will be offered both with petrol and diesel engines.
