- First of two locally produced EVs for the Indian market
- Will be the first three-row EV in the competition
Official announcement
It's official! There will be a Kia Carens EV for the Indian market in 2025. This will be the South Korean automaker’s first locally produced EV and could be exported from India for various developing LHD and RHD markets. It will be joined by a second EV of which no details have been revealed but should be an electric compact SUV given the popularity of the segment and body style.
Kia Carens EV range and features
The Kia Carens EV is expected to have an ideal range of around 500-600km. Unlike the ICE Carens, we expect the EV version to be offered in a lesser number of trims with an emphasis on the higher-spec models with more features. This feature list is expected to include things like dual-digital displays, powered front seats with ventilation, level-2 ADAS and an LED light package. Its biggest USP will be that it will be the first three-row EV and if you look at the EV9, Kia’s current flagship EV, then with both six and seven-seat options.
Estimated pricing and rivals
The ICE Carens range tops at close to Rs. 20 lakh and we expect this one to be in the region of Rs 22 lakh to 26 lakh (depending on the range). It will take on the Hyundai Creta EV, Honda Elevate EV, Mahindra XUV.e8, Maruti eVX and the production-ready version of the Toyota Urban SUV concept.
