Italdesign is a design and engineering company founded by Giorgetto Giugiaro in 1960’s and has been a part of Volkswagen group since 2010. After announcing a new brand with the name Italdesign Automobili Speciali recently, the Italian design house has released the images of its ‘ultra-limited series’ sports car ahead of its Geneva debut. The yet-to-be-named supercar will have a limited production run of just five cars.
The car we can see in the picture is a developed around a modular chassis made up of carbon fibre and aluminium. Powering the car will be a 5.2-litre V10 sourced from the Huracan or the R8, which will propel the car from zero to 100kmph in mere 3.2seconds (which incidentally is identical to the Huracan and the R8). The car will have a top speed in excess of 330kmph. The manufacturer hasn’t divulged actual power figures of the car, but we expect the supercar to be doing around 600+bhp of power. According to the manufacturer, the car’s racing performance has ‘type-approval’ to be used on normal roads.
With an extensive use of carbon-fibre, the car is quite aggressive to look at with vented fenders and prominent front splitters, and outrageous body work, it's got a quirky fin sticking out of the side skirts. There’s even a massive rear diffuser at the back complementing the large rear wing. The car’s design is something which only the Italians can pull off so beautifully.
According to the carmaker, the new sportscar is intended to be show-offed by the collectors and visionary enthusiasts. Prospective customers will also be able to customise their cars owing to finishing and performance packages. No pricing has been revealed, but is expected to be hovering above the exorbitant $2 million for the exclusive five units. Following the Geneva debut, the car will be built at the Italdesign’s Moncalieri facility in Turin, Italy.
