Isuzu will use GM sourced diesel engines for a new pickup truck that it will introduce in the Indian market in 2016. The American giant will supply its former partner with 100, 000 engines that will most likely be manufactured at their factory in Talegaon.
Reports suggest that the move from Isuzu’s side is a bid to keep costs down both in terms of production and R &D. On the other hand, for GM it is believed that the move to supply the engines will give them easy access to the South Asian markets as well as the former’s diesel engine technology.
However, there is no word on whether the pickup will be based on the D-Max or if it will be a new model altogether. When launched, it is expected to be manufactured at the Japanese automaker’s upcoming plant in Sri City industrial zone near the Andhra-Tamil Nadu border.
