Isuzu Motors has announced that it will setup a new manufacturing facility at the Sri City industrial Township near Chittor district in Andhra Pradesh. The Japanese automaker will spend over 1500 crore in setting up the plant and hopes to have it ready by 2016. It will have annual production capacity of 1.2 lakh units per annum.
The Japanese automaker recently entered the Indian market by launching its D-Max pickup truck and MU-7 SUV for Rs 6.87 lakh and Rs 23.75 lakh (ex-showroom Hyderabad) respectively. It has opened a showroom in Hyderabad and one in Coimbatore. The vehicles for now are being imported via the CBU route from Thailand.
Commenting on the launch, Isuzu Motors India deputy managing director Shigeru Wakabayashi said "We plan to sell 80,000 units in India and export some 40,000 units to other countries. The first vehicle from this plant is expected to roll out by the end of 2015 or early 2016," he added.
He said that the company had chosen Sri City as it was close to Chennai, an automobile industrial hub and that they would have access to Chennai’s port, allowing them to support their operations in Thailand.
