Isuzu starts testing the MU-X on Indian roads

Isuzu had imported a single unit of the MU-X to India a couple of months ago. Now, the carmaker has begun testing this SUV on Indian roads in a disguised avatar.

As far as the looks of the MU-X are concerned, its fascia flaunts projector headlamps, fog lamps and a chrome radiator grille. From the sides, you'll notices the flared wheel arches and a wrap-around rear windshield like the Trailblazer. The MU-X rides on 16-inch alloy wheels and boasts of a high ground clearance of 230mm. The roof rails not only add to the sporty look, but can also support 60 kilograms of cargo.

The seven-seater SUV has a spacious cabin. The leather wrapped seats, steering wheel and door trims bring in a premium feel to the interior. There is a touch screen system that comes paired to six speakers and supports Mp3, USB, Aux-in, i-Pod, Bluetooth and even satellite navigation. Safety features include dual airbags, ABS, EBD, brake assist, electronic stability control and traction control system as well.

Power to the Isuzu MU-X comes from a 3.0-litre diesel mill that belts out 174bhp of max power and 380Nm of torque. Globally, the SUV is offered in either a 2WD or 4WD variant, and it will be interesting to see if the automaker introduces both variants in our country. Both these trims come mated to a five-speed automatic transmission.

The Isuzu MU-X was introduced in Thailand first and then launched in Australia, New Zealand, Laos, Indonesia and Philippines. The carmaker will launch it for the Indian market next year, making India just the seventh country to get the SUV. It should also be noted that the MU-X is a replacement for the old Alterra SUV, which is sold as the MU-7 in India. When launched, the MU-X will carry the baton forward for Isuzu as its flagship model and compete with the new Fortuner, Endeavour and Pajero Sport in our country.
