Isuzu has been testing the MU-X in India since last year and the carmaker seems to be finally set to launch the SUV in India now. An unmasked vehicle was snapped recently hinting at the imminent launch.
The Isuzu MU-X is a premium SUV which boasts of modern design features and is loaded with advanced technological equipment. It has a good on-road presence, which is well-complemented by projector headlamps, fog lamps, a chrome radiator grille and 16-inch alloys. Its high ground clearance of 230mm should add to its advantage while tackling Indian roads. The wrap-around windshield at the back adds to the SUV's appeal. The flared wheel-arches and roof rails further augment its sports utility quotient. Furthermore, the roof rails also have a capability of carrying 60 kilograms of cargo.
Like the exterior, the interior of the MU-X is also feature-rich and can accommodate seven passengers. The cabin feels premium thanks to leather-wrapped seats, steering wheel and door trims. There is a touch screen system paired to six speakers and supports Mp3, USB, Aux-in, i-Pod, Bluetooth and even satellite navigation. On the safety front, there are dual airbags, ABS, EBD, brake assist, electronic stability control and traction control system as well.
We can expect the Indian-spec MU-X to be powered by the same engine and transmission as the global model. There is a 3.0-litre diesel unit producing 174bhp of max power and 380Nm of torque. This powerplant comes mated to a five-speed automatic gearbox. Let's hope the carmaker introduces both the 2WD and AWD versions in the country to give prospective buyers options to choose from.
The Isuzu MU-X is already available in Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, Laos, Indonesia and Philippines. India will be the seventh market to get this product, which is basically the replacement for the old Alterra SUV that is still sold as the MU-7 in the Indian market. The MU-X will be the automaker’s flagship model upon launch and compete with the new Fortuner, Endeavour and Pajero Sport in the country.
