Knowing the increase in demand of SUVs in India, Isuzu Motors was mulling at the launch of their MU-X vehicle for quite a long time. Today, the manufacturer has launched it for the Indian market at a starting price of Rs 23.99 lakh. We will soon post our first drive impressions. But, before that check out this detailed photo gallery from the launch event which points to all the features in the car.
The MU-X comes as the MU-7’s replacement in India and is built on the same platform as the new-generation D-Max. It also carries major design and styling elements from the sibling pickup truck as well.
The fascia boasts of projector headlamps, a wide chrome grille and LED DRLs with fog lamps in the bumper.
The car has a tall hood giving the SUV a solid presence on the road. The 17-inch diamond-cut alloys accentuate the stance further.
From the sides, one can see the effort made by Isuzu to give the vehicle a premium look with the addition of chrome on the door handles and wing mirrors.
The rear section too gets a grille, which is embellished in chrome. Further, the wrapped tail lamps also get some chrome accents.
The MU-X boasts of high tensile steel in its body construction and comes equipped with dual airbags as standard. It is packed with a lot of safety features.
Then, there are anti-lock brakes (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), brake assist, electronic stability control (ESC), traction control and hill-start assist.
The seven-seater vehicle's cabin gets a dashboard in a dual-tone finish in shades of Ivory and Grey. The upholstery is done in soft leather.
There's automatic climate control with vents for all three rows. Then there's a seven-inch infotainment system paired to a reverse camera.
The other convenience features include an analog instrument cluster with a digital screen, push-start button, keyless entry and cruise control amongst other features.
For the entertainment of the occupants in the rear seats, there is a roof-mounted screen paired to a surround sound system.
The middle row of seats can be folded and tumbled with a single lever so the third row passengers may get in and out with ease.
The boot space sits at 235 litres, which can be extended to 878 litres with the third row down. This further extends to 1,830 litres by folding the second row.
The Isuzu MU-X is offered with only one engine option, which is the 3.0-litre diesel churning out 174bhp and 380Nm of peak torque. It has a claimed fuel efficiency of 13.8kmpl.
This mill comes mated to a five-speed sequential shift automatic transmission only. Isuzu isn't offering any manual variants in India.
The MU-X also features a 4x4 'Terrain Command' variant with electronic shift-on-the-fly rotary dial. The 4x4 version gets 4x4 high and 4x4 low ratios as well.
The 4x2 variant costs Rs 23.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) at the entry-level trim. Then the top-of-the-line variant is the 4x4 trim, which retails at Rs 25.99 lakh.
Interestingly, the Isuzu MU-X shares its underpinnings with its competitor - the Chevrolet Trailblazer. It also competes with the Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour in our country.
