It is common knowledge in the industry that Maruti Suzuki is aiming to replace the SX4 sedan with a newer model based on the 2014 S-Cross SX4. The crossover on which the sedan will be based is expected to make its way here next year and now sketches and more details on what is believed to be the sedan have emerged. It is likely that the sedan will draw much of its design and characteristics from the China spec Suzuki Authentics concept car but in much saner form.
A report from Team-Bhp suggests that the car will be based on the Ertiga’s which is essentially the Swift platform. It is expected to be powered by the 1.3-litre Multijet diesel and the 1.4-litre K-Series petrol engine both of which are currently found on the Ertiga, both engines will be mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.
The interiors are where this new car is expected to shine. It is believed to be getting a large amount of rear leg room, rear AC vents and higher quality plastic. However, the design and colours as well as features like power windows are expected to remain similar to what is seen on current batch of cars sold by the Japanese automaker globally. Some other features include push button start and white back light for the instrument cluster.
On the outside, the new car is expected to get puddle lamps, 185/65 R15 tyres, electronic folding mirrors and double barrel head lamps with possibly an option to fit projectors on the higher spec variants.
Now, we must address an important question that is sure to have risen in your mind. While the first paragraph speaks about a car based on the SX4 platform, the rest is about a sedan based on the Swift platform. It is likely that Maruti Suzuki will have two cars with a significant price difference to ensure both vehicles do not cannibalise each other.
