- Could be launched in India next year
- Likely to follow Carens EV
New spy shots shared on the web reveal what could be an electric derivative of the Kia Sonet sub-four-metre SUV. The heavily camouflaged test mule hints at Kia’s plans for a Nexon EV rival that could arrive after the Carens EV.
The Kia Sonet EV is expected to be based on the facelifted version that was launched in India in January this year. Compared to the latter, it could get EV-specific changes such as a blanked-off grille, new alloy wheels, refreshed front and rear bumpers, and new paint options.
According to the source, the test mule of the Sonet EV neither had an exhaust nor was there the presence of any engine sound. There could be minor tweaks to the interior of the car too, details of which remain unknown at the moment.
Kia India currently retails two EVs in the local market, namely the EV6 and the recently launched EV9. These will be joined by the Carens EV early next year, and is likely to be followed by the electrified Sonet. The car could have a battery pack paired with a single electric motor and a range of approximately 400km on a single full charge.
