We also got a chance to speak to Mr. James Bourne, Regional Operational Manager, Porsche Middle East. Well here's the Porsche story.
Q. Could you throw some light on how you’ve managed to reduce fuel consumption on the new Cayenne?
A. We have managed to reduce the weight of the new Cayenne considerably by using a special combination of materials across the vehicle from the body to the chassis that have considerably helped in the vehicle’s lightweight construction and have increased the performance. The engineers and designers have reduced a substantial amount of weight with the panoramic sun roof itself, which is now available as an option, and this trend is seen throughout the vehicle. It’s a more dynamic car than its predecessor and sportier.
Q. Why is it that one often hears of delays when it comes to deliveries of Porsche cars?
A. Typically the time required is 100 days. However, back at our plant, we always manufacture one Porsche car less than the demand. We’ve figured out that this works well for us. We are not Ford or Tata and this is how we retain our exclusivity. Having said that, we know that India is primarily a chauffer-driven market and back in Germany, the company recognizes the fact that very often a customer is not willing to wait long before buying a vehicle.
Q. You’ve seen and probably driven the entire Porsche range. What is the one aspect that you find absolutely fascinating about the newly launched Cayenne?
A. The new Cayenne is brilliant on the tarmac but personally, if you ask me, I find the Cayenne’s off-roading capabilities truly remarkable. The handling characteristics of the new Cayenne have increased. It’s predecessor was a great car but this is something else! It really is.
Q. Is there a particular colour that is really popular when it comes to the Porsche cars worldwide?
A. Well black and red are really popular colours, however, now, white is a hugely popular colour across the world.
