India-spec Hyundai Grand i10 facelift spotted sans camouflage

Ahead of the launch of the facelifted Hyundai Grandi10 in India, the car has been spotted at a dealer yard sans camouflage and gets cosmetic updates, upgraded feature list and a new diesel engine. Looking at the Indian-spec car, the first and most prominent change is the revised design of the grille. The hatchback now sports a redesigned “cascading” grille. The larger and curvier hexagonal grille gets rectangular floating pegs, replacing the horizontal slats of the previous model. It misses out the pair of round LED daytime running lights as seen on the international version, though. The fog lamp housing is sleeker and elongated with redesigned black inserts. The rear bumper gets a black insert running all along the rear and incorporates circular reflecting lights. The 14-inch alloy wheels will also get a new design.

The cabin, on the other hand, hasn’t received any alterations in terms of layout but now has an updated feature list. The higher-spec variants of the car will get Android and Apple Carplay features with a larger 7.0-inch infotainment screen. Features like airbags and ABS are expected to be offered as standard across the range once the car is launched.

The new Grand i10 will have a new diesel engine under the bonnet. The 1.1-litre diesel engine will be replaced by a 1.2-litre powerplant developing 75bhp and 171Nm. The new 1.2-litre diesel unit mated to a five-speed manual transmission is expected to offer slightly better power output figures that the outgoing engine. The petrol version will continue with the 1.2-litre Kappa unit making 81bhp and 114Nm albeit with better efficiency.

When launched in India, the pricing is expected to be on par with the current range. It will continue to face competition from other mid-size hatchbacks like the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Ford Figo and the Tata Bolt.
