Eicher Polaris Multix has been discontinued in India with immediate effect citing low sales. The Multix, India’s first personal utility vehicle, was launched in June 2015. Moreover, Eicher Motors Limited and US-based Polaris Industries Inc. have passed a resolution to end operations of Eicher Polaris Private Limited (EPPL) in India which was incorporated in October 2012. Although there was a lot of interest initially, the subsequent sales performance was reportedly slower than the company’s expectations.
As per the official statement, despite several initiatives, the company’s performance could not be revived. Hence, the board of EPPL has concluded that in the present circumstances, it is in the best interest of all stakeholders to put an end to the operations of the company. As for existing customers, the company will continue to provide spares and service support to the existing fleet of Multix vehicles.
Eicher Polaris Multix was available in two variants AX+ and MX variants priced at Rs 2.78 lakhs and Rs 3.41 lakhs (ex-showroom) respectively. Under the hood, the Multix is powered by a 652cc two-cylinder diesel engine mated to a four-speed manual transmission that generates 13bhp at 3000rpm and 37Nm of torque at 1600rpm. Introduced as a three-in-one vehicle, it could accommodate five people with 1,918 litres of luggage space and handle bad roads without much effort.
