The Diwali weekend turned out to be a blast for Indian motorsport in Malaysia. Our boys were at the top of the MotoGP (Moto3) podium in Sepang and rally ace Gaurav Gill went on to seal the FIA Asia Pacific Rally Championship title for the 2016 season after winning the Malaysian Rally.
Driving a purpose built 1.6-litre Skoda Fabia for Team MRF, Gaurav Gill started the Malaysian Rally 42 points ahead of his teammate and closest competitor. The 42 points difference was thanks to the dominating performance of the Indian ace, winning the first four rounds of the APRC. With one round to spare, Gaurav Gill leads the APRC standings by 58 points, an unsurmountable lead.
The last round of the APRC championship will be held in the first week of December at Chikmagalur in Karnataka, India where Gaurav Gill will be crowned as the 2016 APRC champion. Thanks to Gaurav Gill and teammate Fabian Kreim’s exploits, MRF clinched the overall team championship while Skoda claimed the manufacturer’s title.
