The Indian automakers are on a roll as car manufacturers like Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai have recorded an all time high overall sales (which includes domestic sales and export). Tata Motors, Fiat India, Toyota Kirloskar, Mercedes-Benz and General Motors sales figures too jumped up by a huge margin.
Maruti Suzuki India Limited sold a total of 96,650 vehicles in February 2010 which includes 11,885 units of exports compared to 79,190 vehicles in February 2009. Hyundai’s sales figures for February 2010 stood at 54,617 units as against 38,235 units in February 2009. Tata Motors and Fiat India together registered a growth of 43.7% in February 2010 as Tata Motors sold 26,985 units and Fiat sold 2,256 units compared to February 2009 where Tata reported a total sale of 19,039 units and Fiat sold 1,039 units in the domestic market.
Commenting on Hyundai’s sales performance Arvind Saxena, director - Marketing and Sales, Hyundai Motors India Limited commented, “The sales continue on a strong pitch as we have seen a lot of advance buying because of the anticipated rise in excise duty in the Union budget during the last two months. The 2% hike in excise duty which was subsequently levied might result a correction in demand in the short runâ€.
Mahindra’s domestic sales stand at 26580 units (this includes Mahindra UVs, CVs and Logan) as against 19594 units in February 2009, an increase of 35.7%. Exports have grown by 228.5%. General Motors sold 11,111 units in February 2010 against 4,921 units in February last year recording an all time high in monthly sales. Mercedes-Benz reported a sale of 439 units in February 2010, marking a growth of 78 % over the same period in 2009.
Toyota recorded a 101% growth in sales with 5993 units sold in February 2010, as compared to 2976 units in the same month last year. Talking about the Toyota sales figures, Sandeep Singh, deputy managing director, (Marketing) TKM said, "We are very happy to announce our record sales growth for the month of February 2010. Our customers continue to repose their faith in Toyota, which is reflected in our increasing month-on-month sales figures."
