- Mid-sized SUV concept to be showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo
- Plans to achieve 95 per cent localization
- Collaboratively aims at five per cent market share by 2025
Skoda and Volkswagen group India have inaugurated a new technology centre in Pune, India. On behalf of the Volkswagen group, Skoda will lead the ‘India 2.0’ project. A mid-sized SUV will be the first model to be rolled out by the company sometime by mid-2020 and will be showcased in a concept form for the first time at the 2020 Auto Expo event.
Interestingly, the company plans to achieve 95 per cent localization of the MQB AO platform. About 250 engineers will be working at the technology centre and will be responsible for project management, electronics, infotainment, body design, interior, chassis and complete vehicle. The facility will focus on five key aspects – project management, electronics and infotainment, body design, interior and chassis along with the complete vehicle development.
The MQB AO platform vehicles will meet the same core standards for safety, quality and design that the Volkswagen Group represents worldwide. Moreover, both Skoda and Volkswagen will be showcasing models with their own typical characteristics on the market.
