- New-gen Skoda Octavia is slated to debut on 11 November
- Will get a new design language along with added features
Skoda has dropped the first-ever teaser for the new-gen Octavia. The Octavia has remained the highest selling moniker from the Czech brand with over 6.5 million units sold till date. Celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, the new Octavia will enter into its fourth generation and will be officially revealed on 11 November.
The teaser showcases the design sketch of the sedan with a flowing silhouette marked by a coupé-like roofline. Skoda says the new Octavia will have a “distinctive new front section, large wheels and tail lights with crystalline elements add further highlights”. We have already seen the prototypes of the Combi version on many occasions.
In terms of design, the new Octavia will come fitted with a newly designed grille and headlamps. This new design language seems to be inspired by last year’s Vision RS Concept. Meanwhile, the split headlamp design introduced almost two years ago will be replaced by Superb-like single-piece headlamp units. The rear has been comprehensively redesigned and the tail lamps along with the bumpers have been given a new shape.
As of now, there’s no information about the updated cabin but we expect more teasers concerning it will be released before the actual reveal. In all probability, there will be comprehensive changes to the cabin and more hardware & comfort features from the more expensive Superb and Kodiaq will trickle down into the new Octavia.
Engine-wise, the 2020 Octavia will house the same powertrain that is featured in Skoda's line-up of cars. Additionally, the iV brand version of the Octavia which might come with a proper hybrid, or at the least the 48V mild-hybrid powertrain are also on the cards. On the other hand, the exciting vRS model will perhaps become the fastest Skoda to roll out of Mlada Boleslav.
After its global debut, sales are expected to commence only in early 2020. Meanwhile, the Indian debut might take place either late next year or in 2021 along with the updated Superb and the much-awaited Karoq. More details of the new Octavia will be revealed in the coming days.
