- Sadly, the BMW G21 3 Series Touring is not coming to India.
- It is bigger and more spacious than the previous generation model and is also lighter.
- Boot space of 500litres, which can be expanded to a whopping 1510litres.
BMW has revealed the estate version of the new 3 Series sedan. The G21 3 Series Touring is wider and longer than the previous generation model, which means it has more space on the inside, yet it is also lighter and carries a perfect 50:50 weight distribution.
Based on the G20 sedan, the Touring gets roof rails as standard. The extended roofline is nicely integrated into the slightly raked tailgate and the overall design is nothing less than handsome. What’s more interesting is how BMW has carried over the sedan’s sleek taillight design on the estate without any changes. And the dual exhaust tips which come as standard on all models add a sportier appeal to the practical package.
Inside the cabin, the added wheelbase and extra width make the cabin more spacious. The extra headroom complements the comfortable seats which are purpose-built to provide comfort in long-distance hauls. And there are no less than three ISOFIX points on the bench seat to strap on a toddler seat. The boot also has optional anti-slip rails along with electronic tailgate with the separately-opening rear window. What’s more, BMW is also offering electrically expanding and retractable trailer hook.
Engine wise, the 3 Series Touring is available with the same powertrains as the standard sedan. Which means there is the usual 320i, 330i and 330i xDrive petrol engines and the 318d, 320d and 330d oil burners with either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission. Meanwhile, the range-topping M340i is also available in the estate guise. On the other hand, the plug-in hybrid and a fully blown M variant are slated to arrive in 2020.
BMW will publicly debut the new 3 Series Touring later this month at a special event in Munich. Unfortunately, the Touring won’t be available in India when the Bavarian carmaker will launch the new-gen 3 Series in India later this year.
