- The all-new Mercedes-Benz GLB will debut at the 2019 Auto Shanghai in the concept guise.
- The newest model will be positioned between the GLA and GLC.
- The production version might arrive in late-2019 or early next year and it is bound for India as well.
Mercedes-Benz has released a teaser image of the GLB Concept’s interior ahead of its public debut at the 2019 Auto Shanghai later this month. The GLB Concept will preview an all-new model in the Mercedes’ growing SUV line-up and, as the name suggests, it will be positioned between the GLA and GLC. Following its global debut, Mercedes-Benz will surely bring the production-spec GLB to India.
We have already spotted the GLB prototype undergoing testing on many occasions and looking at the teaser image, even the cabin looks almost production ready. The boxy shape of the GLB will be unique compared to the other curvy crossovers in the Three-Pointed Star’s line-up. It will be akin to the bygone GLK Class sold between 2009 and 2015. Some sources are even referring to the GLB as Baby G-Class, but the test mules differ from the Gelandewagen in terms of design and styling. It will sport a rugged appearance though and will be far roomier than the GLA and GLC.
The cabin, meanwhile, is similar to the ones seen on the new crop of vehicles from Ingolstadt such as new-gen A-Class, GLE and B-Class. A wide-screen cockpit design can be seen in the design sketch along with multifunction steering wheel and a trio of circular air-vents on the centre console. There is a hint of wooden trims as well, combined with brown leather upholstery. Under the skin, the GLB will borrow all its powertrain options from other Mercedes-Benz compact cars. The FWD will be standard, but there will also be an all-wheel-drive variant.
The 2019 Auto Shanghai will open its gates in a couple of weeks’ time. For more details from the Chinese motor show, keep watching this space.
