Kia’s first model for India, the SP2i SUV, will be showcased in the country by mid-June. The production-spec SP2i SUV is likely to share similarities with the Kia SP concept, which was last seen at the 2019 Seoul motor show. It is further believed that the production-spec model will either be christened as Kia Tusker or Kia Trailster. The production-ready vehicle will be launched later this year and is likely to be priced between Rs 10 - 15 lakhs.
The upcoming Kia SP2i will be available with 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engine options. Reports indicate that the company is also working on developing a sportier version of the Kia SP2i which will be powered by a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox with paddle shifters.
In terms of design, the upcoming vehicle will get a tiger-nose grille and sharply designed LED lights. Additionally, the vehicle will get a contrast roof, sporty D-pillar, chunkier chrome bar and prominent roof rails. As for features, the SUV will get a large touchscreen infotainment system, wireless charging, and a 360-degree camera. Additionally, the upcoming Kia SP2i will also get a fully digital instrument cluster, head-up display and an ambient light package.
Post launch, the India-bound Kia SP2i will compete against the likes of the Tata Harrier, Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks and the upcoming MG Hector.
