BMW has added a mid-life update to the X1 shortly after revealing the new-generation 1 Series. The new and updated X1 gets a revised fascia and added features inside the cabin while under the skin everything remains more or less unchanged.
Appearance wise, BMW has added its enlarged grille design to the baby X model as well. Also, the LED headlamps are redesigned akin to the one seen on the new-generation X5. Meanwhile, the front bumper gets a gaping grille and squared off profile, thus lending the new X1 a sportier stance.
At the rear, the taillight design has been retained but it does get a new LED lighting signature. The exhaust tips are larger as well while the overall design has been carried forward without any striking differences. However, there are new paint options and newly designed alloy wheels that complete the update on the exterior.
On the inside, the 2020 X1 has a new electronic gear selector. On the other hand, the 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system is bigger than before and comes equipped with BMW’s latest operating system. Rest of the cabin remains unchanged save for contrast stitching on Dakota leather upholstery, all-digital instrument panel and X1-specific welcome projection lights.
All the powertrain options of the new X1 now meet EU6d exhaust emissions norms. There is now a choice of almost 16 engine/transmission combinations available for BMW’s entry-level SUV. The range-topping xDrive25i is powered by 230bhp motor sending power to all-four-wheels through an eight-speed transmission. Which is good enough for a 0-100kmph time of 6.6 seconds.
BMW hasn’t revealed pricing or sales date for the new X1 at the moment. But we can expect the updated model to arrive in India as soon as it hits the streets in the international markets. Which could either be late this year or sometime in 2020. Keep watching this space for more information on all the upcoming BMW cars in India.
