- The new 6 Series GT will follow the updated 5 Series
- Updates would include new fascia and added features
Just three years since its introduction and BMW is already busy working on an update for the 5 Series. Along with it, the Bavarian carmaker is also planning to introduce a mid-life update for the 6 Series GT, a prototype of which was spotted testing just outside the company headquarters in Munich. As BMW’s updates go, the new 6 GT will get cosmetic tweaks at the front and rear in addition to a makeover on the inside.
Now, it remains to be seen whether the new 5 Series and the 6 Series GT will adopt the new, massive grille design as seen on the 7 Series and X7. The test mule here has a faux panel under the cladding so it is hard to guess. What also can be seen are the redesigned headlamps and a slightly reworked rear which further make it unclear.
Both the front and rear bumpers will be reworked as well as a part of the update. On the inside, we can expect a new infotainment system along with added features. Even the instrument cluster will be updated apart from a tweaked centre console and new seats.
In terms of powertrain, the current line-up of engines will be carried forward. What remains shrouded in mystery is whether the hybrid powertrain from the 7 Series will be offered with this flagship GT. If it happens, the 645e xDrive will use a 3.0-litre six-cylinder and an electric motor with 380bhp and an electric range of up to 60 kilometres.
The updated 6 Series GT is expected to break cover either late this year or early 2020. Once it goes on sale in the international markets, BMW will promptly bring in the updated 6 GT in India.
