- The 2020 Volkswagen Passat to be revealed early next year.
- Will get refreshed exterior with new tech and improved hybrid system.
- Expect to get Arteon-like styling with Touareg features.
Volkswagen will be coming up with the new-gen Golf early next year. Apart from that, the latest teaser from the German giant suggests that the new and updated Passat is also to be expected, alongside the Mark8 Golf. The 2020 Passat will carry an aggressive design along with an improved hybrid line-up and modern features inside the cabin.
The teaser sketch hints at a sportier demeanour for the Passat with a sloping roofline and an aggressive fascia. The Arteon-like headlamps are recognisable on the sketch along with a bold and imposing grille. The sharp body creases are evident, but the flared wheel arches as seen on the design sketch will add a sportier stance to the sedan if it makes it into the production model.
At the rear, the sleek tail lights seem to take its design cues from the flagship SUV, the Touareg. The overall dimensions of the Passat are expected to grow further with the update. On the inside, there will be larger screens as seen on the SUV along with a host of active and passive driver assist systems.
Under the hood, there will be a transformation in terms of the new 1.5-litre Evo engine which will replace the 1.4-litre in the international market. The 2.0-litre motor which is on sale in India as well will continue to power the new Passat. However, the expensive GTE variant of the Passat will be joined by the more affordable hybrid variant to make it more lucrative for the market. The system will use a larger lithium-ion battery pack for extended range along with a 48V mild hybrid tech.
The 2020 Passat will be revealed early next year before hitting the streets by mid-2019. It is expected to arrive in India late next year. More details will be revealed in the coming months, so keep watching this space for more.
