- This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Octavia badge.
- Will get a new design language along with new-gen features.
Instead of revealing the new and updated Octavia at the Frankfurt Motor Show – to steal the limelight from the Superb facelift and Monte Carlo editions – Skoda will pull the covers off the sedan at a standalone event on 11 November in Prague. The updated Octavia will also commemorate the 60th anniversary of the moniker this year.
As a part of this update, the new Octavia will come fitted with a newly designed grille and headlamps, which are inspired by last year’s Vision RS Concept. The split headlamp design introduced almost two years ago will be replaced by Superb-like single-piece headlamp units. The rear has been comprehensively redesigned. But so far we have only seen the prototypes in the estate body style, and we’ll have to wait and see how much the sedan has changed in terms of the taillight and boot lid design. There’s no view inside the cabin yet. But this being a completely new model, we expect the hardware from the more expensive Superb and Kodiaq to trickle down to the new 2020 Octavia.
In terms of powertrain, the 2020 Octavia will house the same powertrain that is featured in Skoda's line-up of cars. Additionally, the iV brand version of the Octavia is also on the cars which might come with a proper hybrid, or at the least the 48V mild-hybrid powertrain. Meanwhile, the exciting vRS model will perhaps become the fastest Skoda to roll out of Mlada Boleslav.
The new Octavia will follow the new-gen Mk8 Volkswagen Golf which is set to arrive next month. Meanwhile, an Indian debut is likely to happen either next year or in 2021 along with the updated Superb and the much-awaited Karoq.
