- The updated GLE Coupe debuts alongside the GLE 53 AMG Coupe.
- Gets a six-cylinder diesel while the AMG variant comes with a 435bhp mild-hybrid.
- Expected to arrive in India as well.
Mercedes-Benz has taken the wraps off the new and updated GLE Coupe as a part of its extensive model offensive. Just like the previous model, the new GLE Coupe continues to be the swanky version of the GLE with a sloping roofline and a sleeker rear design. Also debuting alongside it is the GLE 53 AMG version.
Appearance-wise, the front of the SUV-Coupe is the same as the standard version – except for some aggressive air-intakes – until the B-pillar. Beyond it, the smooth flowing roof meets the shoulder line at the sharply raked hatch. And the duck-tail spoiler design on the tailgate also adds to its sportier stance. Meanwhile, just like the predecessor, the taillights are sleeker than the one found on the standard version.
The large wheels, combined with aggressive diffusers and body kits make the GLE Coupe look handsome as well as cheeky. Meanwhile, the 53 AMG version gets a Panamericana grille upfront, aggressive air-vents, flared wheel arches, 22-inch wheels and AMG batches which makes it stand out. On the inside, the cabin remains more or less the same as the standard GLE-Class with MBUX interface and the usual creature comforts.
In terms of powertrain, the standard GLE Coupe is available in 350d and 400d guise powered by a 3.0-litre straight-six diesel producing 272bhp/600Nm and 330bhp and 700Nm, respectively. The GLE 53 AMG Coupe, on the other hand, is powered by a 3.0-litre six-cylinder in-line six petrol motor with 435bhp. This powertrain also does duty in the E53 AMG and CLS53 AMG and comes with a 48V mild-hybrid system as standard. All three models of the GLE Coupe have the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system as standard. Mercedes has also fitted the coupe-SUV with other hardware like the air-suspension, active steering, active braking assist, and electronic body control, to name a few.
Pricing and availability of the new GLE Coupe haven’t been divulged yet. But sales are expected to commence by next year with pricing revealed closer to launch. And we expect the new GLE Coupe along with the AMG version to arrive at our shores once the new GLE goes on sale in India.
