- Hyundai and Kia have planned a vehicle offensive of at least 13 models in 2019.
- Genesis will reveal its first ever SUV.
- The new Sonata will debut Fluidic 3.0 design philosophy.
Hyundai will be having a busy 2019. The Korean carmaker, along with its sister brand Kia and luxury arm Genesis will be bringing in no less than 13 new models this year. The most important one would be the new and updated 2020 Sonata flagship sedan.
The Sonata is Hyundai’s global flagship. And the forthcoming eighth-generation is going to introduce Hyundai’s Fluidic 3.0 design language. The carmaker also plans a station wagon body style, but it will be limited only to select few markets in Europe.
Genesis, the luxury vehicle division of Hyundai, will debut their first SUV this year. Genesis has already teased the vehicle and all we know about it at the moment is that it will share the same underpinning as the upcoming G80 sedan. It will get a V6 engine along with all-wheel-drive system, but the 5.0-litre V8 from Genesis' stable is also on the cards. Apart from 13 new models between Hyundai, Kia and Genesis, the company will also be working on autonomous technology for the domestic market.
According to reports, the Korean carmaker is the fifth largest automaker in the world. Last year, they sold 7.39 million cars across the globe which, in fact, felt short of their target of 7.55 million. Therefore, this year, the company plans to sell more than 7.6 million cars. So the offensive of 13 new models and updating the current portfolio will surely help Hyundai to achieve their target.
As far as Indian debut is concerned, Hyundai is planning around eight new products this year. This includes the much awaited QXI sub-4 metre SUV and the all-electric Kona. Apart from these two, we also expect updated Grand i10, facelifted Elantra, Tucson facelift and new-gen Santa Fe to arrive in 2019.
