The city of Joy recently got its first major taste of speed, engines and all things fast in the form of the India Speed Week 2016. Held at the Behala Flying Club, it the saw the attendance of over 7000 people of all age groups and included a number of events like drag racing, auto-car expo, test drives, adventure sports, glamour and entertainment programmes amongst others.
The India Speed Week2016 collaborated with Elite Octane Inc and was approved by The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India. Apart from the cars, there were also bikes from various sizes, capacities and categories all singing the songs of pistons, exhausts and wheelies.
It also took the glamour quotient several notches higher and set the bolly-speedometer roaring by roping in the self-acclaimed bike fanatic and speed lover John Abraham who flagged off the racers on the inaugural day.
Commenting on the occasion, Amit Kumar Modi, chairman, ISW said, ‘’It has always been my dream to do a drag racing event with cars and bikes, what better than to flag it off in my own city, Kolkata. The moment the idea germinated within me, I started executing it. Together we envision to make this a franchise for the future years to come. Without holding anything back, we have kept the scale of the event big and will continue to strive to make it bigger with every year’’.
