Ahead of its official debut in India, the 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan is on sale in the UK market at a starting price of £22,510 (Approx Rs 20.44 lakh). The new Volkswagen Tiguan claims to offer extra 25 per cent of fuel efficiency and improved interior space. The India-bound model will however will only be offered in a diesel variant.
The Volkswagen Tiguan will be offered with two diesel engine options – a 1.6-litre engine which generates 114bhp and a 2.0-litre engine in three power outputs – 148bhp, 178bhp and 217bhp. Though a 1.4-litre and a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine will be offered internationally, the Indian market will only get the Tiguan in diesel guise. The four-wheel-drive system will be offered only in variants powered by a bigger engine, while the smaller engine variant will get a front-wheel drive system.
The new Tiguan is stated to be 60mm longer, 30mm wider and 33mm lower than its predecessor. While, the car’s wheelbase has been increased by 77mm to 2681mm. A recent crash test of the Tiguan by Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Programme) awarded it a maximum five-star rating. The boot space is also up by 145-litres to 615-litres. The 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan will be launched in India in this fiscal year.
