- Showcased as a concept car in 2022
- Expected to be offered only with V8 power
In 2022, Mercedes showcased a new Maybach concept involving its two-door SL roadster. The concept was exactly what we expected with the body of an SL and the luxury trappings of the Maybach badge. Now, it has been spotted out in the real world for the first time.
The concept car was quite radical with large deep dish wheels and a massive Maybach grille all wrapped into the svelte frame of the SL range. Well, the production model is bigger and has a conventional Maybach design for the wheels but you can also see the large chrome grille and the forward-leaning stance that defines the SL range.
What makes this even more tantalising is that our spy sources have captured a convertible model, confirming that the car will arrive in both hard-top and soft-top guises. Then, there is the fact that it was spotted exiting the AMG factory in Affalterbach, indicating that this is a high-performance version of an ultra-luxury car, call it if you will, the best of the best (of the best). It’s expected to make use of the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 powering the Maybach GLS and the AMG GT-4 with an output of around 600bhp. It comes mated to an eight-speed AT with the automaker’s 4MATIC AWD system.
This is expected to be Mercedes’ answer to the Bentley Continental GTC, Maserati GranCabrio, and the Ferrari Roma Spider. It will come to India when launched as the Mercedes Maybach SL will be a CBU and should have little to no difficulty in finding takers. Our sources indicate a 2025 launch for this vehicle.
