Revealed at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto show, the Jeep Compass is set to be manufactured at four manufacturing hubs around the world.
Apart from India, it will be manufactured in China, Brazil and Mexico. The Compass has made its debut in China at the Guangzhou motor show with prices starting from 170,000 Yuan (Rs 16.82 lakh).
The Compass is offered in four trims in China. Along with the expected three variant – Sport, Longitude and Limited; there is a top-of-to-line variant – Trailhawk 4WD as well. Price for the top variant is around 240,000 Yuan (Rs 23.74 lakh).
Globally, the Jeep compass will have five engines options – three petrol engines and two diesel engines. But in China, the Compass gets a choice of two engine options, a 1.4-litre MultiAir2 turbocharged petrol, with 113bhp and 250Nm of torque and the naturally aspirated 2.4-litre MultiAir2 petrol engine with an expected output of 180bhp and 237 Nm. It can be had with a 6-speed manual, 6-speed auto, and 9-speed automatic transmission.
The Chinese spec gets all the features which are expected to be provided in India. This includes an 8.4-inch infotainment screen, Uconnect system, engine start/stop button, adaptive cruise control, advanced brake assist, Selec-Terrain with five terrain settings, leather seats and a host of active and passive safety and security features.
The Jeep Compass will make its way on to the Indian shores by the middle of next year. It will be most affordable Jeep compared to the Grand Cherokee and Wrangler, as it will be locally manufactured at the manufacturer’s Ranjangaon facility. When launched in India, it is expected to be priced at Rs 25 lakh-35 lakh.
