Honda has released a teaser for a facelifted version the City sedan which will be revealed in Thailand in January 2017. The same car will make it to India later next year. It was reported earlier that the new City will take it cues from the Chinese sedan, the Honda Greiz but later it was speculated that it will be inspired from the Honda Civic instead.
The latest teaser of the City conforms to the speculation as the teaser features LED headlamps with LED DRLs. The grille will continue Honda’s family face. The tail lamp looks more or less the same as on the current generation City. The teaser also previews a newly designed alloy wheel and a reworked fog lamp surround. Except for a few nips and tucks, the new City is expected to carry forward the creases and body lines from the car already sold in India. As the car in the teasers, the facelift City is expected to get new body colours as well.
No details of the cabin are revealed as yet but expect the car to get new touchscreen infotainment system with Smartphone connectivity. Under the skin, things are expected to remain unchanged. So the powertrain will include the 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel unit making 98bhp and 200Nm and the 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol producing 119bhp and 145Nm will be powering the new City. The diesel variant will come with a six-speed manual while the petrol will get an option of a five-speed manual CVT gearbox.
When launched in India, it will continue its battle with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Skoda Rapid, Hyundai Verna and Volkswagen Vento. Pricing is expected to remain more or less the same as that of the existing City. Stay tuned to CarWale for more development on the facelift Honda City.
