Production of the India bound 2014 Audi A3 sedan has commenced production at the Ingolstadt based manufacturer's new facility in Gyor, Hungary. The model debuted at the Shanghai Motor Show in April this year and is currently the cheapest sedan offering in the company's product portfolio.
The new version of the A3 sedan is now on sale in Germany and expected to be available to the other European markets by the end of this year. The A3 sedan is powered by a 1.4-litre petrol which develops 140 bhp and 250 Nm of torque,a 1.8-litre petrol that churns out 40 more bhp while delivering the same amout of torque and a 2.0-litre turbo diesel that develops 150 bhp and 320 Nm of torque. Depending on the engine, power is transmitted via either a manual six-speed transmission or the S-Tronic transmission. Like its siblings in the model series, the A3 Sedan makes use of the new modular infotainment system (MIB), a high-resolution 7-inch-screen, a module for digital radio reception, the Audi phone box and 705W Bang & Olufsen sound system as standard.
The A3 sedan is expected to be on sale in India next year. Initially it will be brought in as CBU (Completely Built Unit), but Audi will surely have plans to localize this entry-level sedan. The new model will be positioned below the A4 to compete with the Mercedes-Benz CLA sedan with a price tag in the range of Rs 25 to 30 lakh
