The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced heavy fines for illegal parking in the Mumbai region. The civic body of Mumbai has shared details of fines that will be applicable to citizens who park their vehicles within a 500 meter radius of parking lots.
The fine will be calculated based on various factors such as the class of the vehicle, towing charges, penalty, late payment charges and maximum late payment charges. The BMC has also listed out the minimum and maximum fine applicable to each class of vehicle.
Introduced on 7 July, the minimum fine across segments stands at Rs 5,000 for two-wheelers while the maximum fine of Rs 23,250 stands for Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMV). The minimum fine and maximum fine for a Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) is Rs 10,000 and Rs 15,100 respectively. Images shared on social media platforms reveal that a few citizens have already been fined. In one such image shared here, we can see that the driver of a four wheeler has been fined Rs 10,000 for parking in a no-parking area.
