International Cars and Motors Ltd (ICML), commonly known for Sonalika tractors and farm equipments is planning to launch a premium sedan next year. The company is addressing the new vehicles as ‘the world car’, which will compete with the D-Segment vehicles like the Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Elantra and others.
This will be the first sedan from the Punjab based manufacturer after entering the passenger market with Rhino MPV in 2006. Top Gear India reports that the sedan is in final stages of testing and will be unveiled by mid-2013. Our hopes from this vehicle have increased, as the report also confirms that ICML has roped in Pininfarina for styling, along with Lotus engineering for suspension and dynamic setup of the vehicle.
Another thing that will help ICML is the fact that they have a refined and efficient 2.0-litre diesel engine, which they supply to GM from the Tavera. The power rating of this world car is expected to be around 120bhp to 130bhp with peak torque in the range of 280Nm to 320Nm.
We are ourselves eager to know more details of this new car; though we still expect it to be a remake of a Chinese vehicle with upgrades to quality and refinement. As for the success of the model, it is likely that it will do well in North India especially in Punjab and Himachal where the company has strong hold, but they will need to put in lot of efforts to make it successful pan India
