Hyundai Motor India Ltd continued to grow at a steady pace with domestic sales growing at 2.4 % for the month of January, 2011. HMIL’s total sales for January, 2011 stood at 43,316 units as against 52,628 units in January, 2010 registering a decline of 17.7%. The domestic sales accounted for 30,306 units as against 29,601 units in January, 2010 while the exports dipped by 43.5% from 23,027 units in January, 2010 to 13,010 units in January, 2011.
The Next Gen i10 continues to ride on its popularity with sales of 16,694 units in the domestic market this month. Commenting on January, 2011 sales, Arvind Saxena, Director - Marketing and Sales, HMIL said, "Hyundai continues to be on a steady growth path riding on the strong performance of its compact cars. We expect the domestic market to continue to grow although the rate might come down to low double digit this year."
The segment-wise cumulative sales for the month of January 2011 are as follows: A2 segment (Santro, i10, i20) 39,343 units; A3 Segment (Accent & Verna) 3,957 units; A5 segment (Sonata Transform) 11 units; Santa Fe (SUV) 5 units. Hyundai's expansion plan in India is already underway and we will surely get to see the i30 and the Elantra Avante this year. Hyundai has not yet disclosed its plans but we sure hope to see both these cars in the Indian Market.
