Although Hyundai has been making cars featuring hybrid technology, the brand has never competed directly with the world’s best-selling hybrid, the Toyota Prius. But now with its new four-door hybrid model currently under development, it seems the Korean auto giant is looking to lock horns with the Prius.
Codenamed AE, the upcoming model has been spied on test wearing heavy camouflage. The car is expected to launch next year with the underpinnings of the new generation Elantra.
Not much is known about this new model although Hyundai is expected to combine a 1.6-litre petrol mill with an electric motor in a parallel setup, as well as a small lithium-ion battery. The brand eventually could bring in a plug-in hybrid based on this new vehicle.
