Hyundai may soon enter the highly lucrative compact SUV segment in India to rival the Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport and Nissan Terrano. The car had been spotted testing before in Korea and now again in China and we might see the production ready version by early 2015.
As of now, very few details are known about the car. The compact SUV will inherit some design elements from the Curb concept. Showcased at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show, the concept was developed at Hyundai’s California Design Studio on the lines of the ‘fluidic’ design language. The compact SUV will be larger in size and feature a more production feasible dimensions and design.
The compact SUV is expected to be offered with an option of one petrol and two diesel engines. The 1.6-litre and 1.4-litre diesel units from the Verna produce 126bhp and 89bhp respectively while the 1.6-litre petrol makes 122bhp. The new compact SUV will be built in India at the company’s Chennai facility and also be exported to European countries.
