Hyundai’s Grand i10-based sedan now has a name, it’s called the Xcent and it’s the Korean carmaker’s ticket to the hotly-contested compact sedan segment which is currently dominated by Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire and the Honda Amaze. The Xcent, however, is not the only brand new model to foray into the compact sedan segment as Tata Motors, too, have brought along their all-new contender in the form of the Zest.
Interestingly, the Zest (thanks to its stubby boot and a shortened footprint) is considered to be the spiritual successor to the Indigo CS – a car that pioneered the compact sedan segment in India.
Now that the Hyundai Xcent and the Tata Zest are here: armed and ready to take on the competition with their impressive looks, long list of features and hopefully – competitive price tags, the current segment leaders i.e. the Swift Dzire and the Amaze, are more than likely to have a tough time. While all the four models mentioned here are targeted at pretty much the same set of buyers, these cars are quite different in the way they have been perceived.
At this moment, we can’t give a clear verdict as to which of these four compact sedans performs the best in terms of design and feel or quality and performance. What we do know for a fact is that you possibly cannot go wrong with any of them.
