Hyundai Xcent, one of the eagerly anticipated cars this year, will be launched tomorrow in New Delhi. The Xcent is the second vehicle to be launched by Hyundai in 2014 after the all-new Santa Fe SUV.
Design wise the Xcent is identical to the Grand i10 hatchback until the C-pillar from where the sliding roofline nicely merges into the stubby boot. The entry-level sedan space has cars which are derived from a hatchback, the Xcent is no different. But, unlike the competition it looks like a car that was designed as a sedan, rather than a hatchback with a boot.
Hyundai’s level of equipment makes it a winner again in this game. The Xcent will get all the features from the Grand i10 hatchback and will get a segment first push-button start-stop function, one touch opening boot and rear ac vents.
The Xcent will be powered by the 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine producing 81bhp and the three-cylinder 1.1-litre diesel mill churning out 70bhp from the Grand i10. However, we feel the Korean car maker might introduce the four-cylinder 1.4-litre diesel engine used in its other products in India. The car will get a five-speed manual, and a four-speed automatic transmission. The automatic might be provided as apetrol only option like the competition but it is likely that Hyundai might bring in the first automatic diesel sedan under Rs 10 lakh.
The Hyundai Xcent is expected to be priced between Rs 5.1 lakh to Rs 7.70 lakh. The car will compete with the segment leader Maruti Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze and the upcoming Tata Zest. This year, expect to see some fireworks in the segment dominated by Maruti. We will be covering the launch live from New Delhi, stay tuned to carwale tomorrow for more on the Hyundai Xcent.
