Honda recently launched the fourth-generation City and is all set to redeem the C-Segment leader title from Hyundai Verna. Now reports suggest that Hyundai seems to be working on a new diesel variant of the Verna and will price it aggressively to pit it against the Honda City.
A newspaper report suggests that Hyundai will add a CX trim of the Verna Fluidic Diesel and place it between the EX and SX variants of the outgoing car. The present top-end SX Opt variant is equipped with features like projector headlamps, safety escort headlamps, illuminated power window switches and 16-inch diamond cut alloy-wheels. The new CX variant is expected to be fitted with features like a 2-DIN audio system with Bluetooth, steering-mounted controls, electro-chromatic mirror, rear parking camera with parking sensors, fully automatic temperature control, electrically adjustable foldable outside mirror with turn indicators, ABS and driver-side airbag as standard.
The new Hyundai Verna CX trim will be powered by the 1.4-litre turbo diesel engine producing 89bhp of power and 220Nm of torque. This mill is seen on the base and EX versions of the Verna diesel and also powers the i20.
Hyundai surely does not want to lose the crown of the C-Segment leader which it snatched from the Honda City three years ago when they launched the Hyundai Verna fluidic. The company plans to divert the prospective buyers of the New Honda City Diesel to the Hyundai showrooms with the introduction of this CX variant which will be packed with loads of features and retail at a competitive price. We will bring you more updates about the same as soon as we get a confirmation from the manufacturer, so stay tuned to CarWale.
