Hyundai might launch the facelifted Verna next month. The company plans to bring in this new model to compete with the new Honda City and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz that snatched the best-seller title from the C-segment car.
This facelifted model is similar to the one showcased at the Beijing Auto Show in China last year. The revised Verna will sport new headlamps which are bigger than the current ones. The front bumper is tweaked and gets new fog lamps, while the bonnet is redesigned as well. The silhouette of the car is the same but the car will get new diamond-cut alloy wheels. At the back, two new big reflectors can be seen on the bumper and for the shape of the tail lamps, though the same, we can expect the company to incorporate LED strips for illumination.
The interior of the upcoming car is expected to be similar to the present version. However, the manufacturer might throw in a couple of new features in the sedan to make it more luxurious and practical. The feature list might include a new seven-inch touchscreen with navigation and also the music system with internal memory function that is seen in the Grand i10 and Xcent.
The new Verna is expected to be powered by the same petrol and diesel engine options. There are two petrol variants, one that comes powered by a 105bhp 1.4-litre engine and the other 121bhp 1.6-litre mill. Both these come paired to a five-speed manual gearbox. The diesel models also include two options, the 1.4- and 1.6-litre mills that produce 89bhp and 126bhp of power respectively and come mated toa six-speed manual. There are speculations that apart from the current four-speed automatic, the six-speed automatic transmission might also be offered.
Let us hope the manufacturer also makes some mechanical changes to improve the steering feedback and better the handling. We expect Hyundai to price the Verna in the range of Rs 7.5 lakh to Rs 12 lakh making it compete with not just the City and Ciaz but also the Nissan Sunny, Skoda Rapid, Renault Scala and the Volkswagen Vento.
