Hyundai has unveiled the India bound Elantra facelift in South Korea. The D-segment sedan from the Korean auto maker debuted in the Indian market last year and is the fifth generation vehicle in the car’s line up. The International spec 2014 Elantra gets some major cosmetic changes and will now be offered with the 1.6-litre diesel mill that is currently available in India.
The 2014 Elantra is 20mm longer than the 2013 MY car. New features on this model include LED headlights, redesigned bumpers as well new 17-inch alloy wheels that now look more in sync with the fluidic design philosophy. Changes to the interiors include repositioning of the AC vents and increased height of the front arm rest. New features in the cabin include ventilated seats, rear AC vents and 3.5-inch touchscreen display.
On the engine front, in addition to the petrol engines the international markets will now also get the option of the 1.6-litre diesel mill that produces 128PS and 259Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a six speed automatic. This is the same configuration offered on the India spec Elantra SX AT variant.
The Elantra is currently the highest selling model in the D-Segment; however its domination may be short lived as the 2013 Skoda Octavia is schedule to debut this festive season. Hyundai may try and up the game a bit in the segment by adding the new features to the Indian version of Elantra by the end of this year.
