Hyundai UK has officially announced the pricing and specification of the new Tucson, which will go on sale in the UK from September 2015. Prices for this new crossover will start from £18,695 (Rs 18.72 lakh) for the entry level petrol powered S trim, going all the way till £32,345 (Rs 32.39 lakh) for the top-spec Premium SE with 2-litre diesel engine.
The new Tucson promises to lead its segment with a striking new design and loads of features on board. Design wise, the front of the new Tucson is dominated by Hyundai’s signature hexagonal front grille, which connects with the LED headlamps. The front bumper features a wing-shaped appearance, which incorporates the LED daytime running lights, giving a visual reference to the vehicle’s wide track. The rear, meanwhile, has a clean design with horizontal lines that flow from the rear wheel arches and are accentuated by slim tail lights.
Built on a completely new platform, the Tucson is claimed to feature generous interior dimensions. It delivers substantial 513-litres of luggage space with all the seats up. Under the hood, Hyundai is offering two petrol engines: 135bhp 1.6-litre GDI or 176bhp 1.6-litre T-GDI, plus three diesel options: 115bhp, 1.7-litre, 136bhp 2.0-litre ‘standard power’ or 184bhp, 2.0-litre ‘high power’ engine units. Besides a manual, the new Tucson will be available with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic unit for specific variants.
Since the launch of the Santa Fe in 2001, Hyundai says it has delivered more than one million SUVs to European customers. The new Tucson, then, will be of high importance to Hyundai’s future prospects in the UK, as the compact SUV segment accounted for 20.5 per cent of the company’s sales in 2014.
