Hyundai has announced that it aims to produce 5,500 units of the Creta every month and based on customer demand it aims to ramp up the number of vehicles produced to 7,000 units. The South Korean automaker launched its compact SUV for the Indian market today and has given it an introductory price of Rs 8.59 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
Speaking to a contingent of media personnel after the launch of the compact SUV in Delhi, Rakesh Srivastava, senior VP of sales and marketing, said that in addition to domestic production, Hyundai will also soon be exporting the Creta to various markets. These are expected to be countries in Latin America, Africa and the Middle East where Hyundai already sells a variety of the India-made models.
He emphasised that the domestic market would get first priority for the compact SUV, no doubt backed by the fact that they have already got over 41,000 enquiries and 15,000 confirmed intent to purchase. With such high such demand and a production capacity that is quite behind this number, it remains to be seen whether Hyundai will be able to reduce waiting times to under the current two month period. The company, however, remains positive that it will be able to meet the demand as the poor conditions in many of the export markets means, there will be lesser than normal demand abroad freeing up capacity for domestic sales.
