Hyundai hit gold with the Creta in India and became an immediate favourite amongst SUV buyers. For an SUV in the Creta’s price bracket to consistently churn out 9-10,000 units a month is no mean feat. However if Hyundai hit gold with the Creta, Maruti hit platinum with its Brezza in the sub-four meter compact SUV segment. The Brezza sold an astonishing 15,000 units in July compared to the Creta which sold 10,500 odd units. With these kind of numbers, it is understood that Hyundai wants a piece of the action too. Mr. Y.K.Koo, MD & CEO, Hyundai Motors India Ltd. confirmed that Hyundai will bring in its compact SUV in 2019.
SUV’s aside Hyundai will also bring in 2 compacts next year. With the i10 discontinued, it left a huge void in that segment where the Maruti Celerio and the Tata Tiago have been making merry. The compacts which could be a hatch and a notchback are expected to get petrol units from the Grand i10. However the big news is that Hyundai will introduce their very own AMT gearbox for both these models.
Expect a lot of action from the Hyundai stall at the 2018 Auto Expo. Keep watching this space for more.
