-Â Â Â Unveiled in February of this year
-Â Â Â Expected to be priced in the range of Rs 25 lakhs to Rs 30 lakhs
-Â Â Â Styling is on par with standard Kona minus the front grille
Hyundai has said that it will bring the Kona EV to the country in 2019 and will initially only offer 1000 units for the Indian market. It is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 25 lakhs to Rs 30 lakhs and will be the first electric SUV to be offered in this price range. However, this may vary at the time of the launch as the South Korean automaker is currently working to get the vehicle subsidised under the Central Government’s EV mobility plans. Â
Unveiled in February, the Kona EV sits right at the top of this SUV family and can be had in the long range guise or short range guise. We expect that Hyundai will bring the former which is good for 470km thanks to a 64kWh battery pack. The car gets a 100-kW DC charger and is capable of 80 per cent battery charge in just 54 minutes.
The Kona EV is styled pretty much like the standard car but sans a grille and specialised design for the alloy wheels which is specific to this model. We have looked into all the minute details of the Kona EV in a separate story and you can read about that here.
The arrival of the Kona in India will be a major step for EVs as a whole as this will be the first full electric vehicle to arrive in this price range. While strictly not an EV it will take on the Toyota Prius in this price bracket. Â
