Hyundai is going aggressive with its SUV plans. It recently unveiled the Kona, a compact SUV that will be sold in the global markets. But that’s not all. The Korean maker will add two more SUVs in the next few years.
One of the top honchos said that the company will launch a new ‘A-SUV’ by 2020. This vehicle will have smaller body proportions and will be positioned below the Kona. The second SUV is question will be bigger than the Tucson and will be launched after the A-SUV hits the market. With these two models, Hyundai have five SUVs to offer. There’s the Creta and the Santa Fe which the company sells in various market. In fact, there are also news about another SUV that will sit above the Santa Fe, however, this vehicle is likely to cater the North American market.
“Our plan is to come up with A-segment SUV - smaller than Kona - by 2020 - and so we want to embrace from A-segment to E-segment. We’re also planning to roll out an E-segment SUV that’s bigger than Santa Fe. We want our line-up to reflect our customers’ needs," said Chung Eui-sun, vice-chairman, Hyundai.
Over the last few years, the customers, not just in India, but in other countries, are preferring SUVs over the traditional sedans. Hyundai wanted to address these set of customers, so that it will help them stay with the current trend. For India, the company will continue to offer products at the right price. However, it is still not clear if the company would launch the Kona in India.
